Multi Engine Instrument Rating (IR(H))

With the Multi Engine IR(H) course, you learn to fly in poor visibility conditions (IMC). This rating greatly improves your career opportunities, as it is often a requirement for positions with offshore companies, police, or HEMS.

Flying by Instruments

The Multi Engine Instrument Rating training is conducted on one of the most widely used twin-engine helicopters: the EC135.

Before starting, you must have passed the instrument rating theory exams.
The practical part consists of 50 flight hours (55 if you hold only a PPL), of which up to 40 hours can be completed in the simulator. The remaining hours are flown on our modern and safe EC135P2+. The course concludes with a flight exam.

To start the course, you must:

  • Have a CPL(H) license
  • Have passed the IR theory exams

If you hold a PPL(H), you may also start if you:

  • Have a Night Rating
  • Have at least 50 hours cross-country flight time as Pilot in Command (PIC)

Before starting, you must have passed the following exams:

  • Air Law
  • Aircraft General Knowledge – Instrumentation
  • Flight Planning & Monitoring
  • Human Performance
  • Meteorology
  • Radio Navigation
  • Communications
  • 50 hours (PPL: 55 hours)
  • Up to 40 hours in the simulator
  • 10 hours (PPL: 15 hours) on our state-of-the-art EC135P2+

By training extensively in the simulator, you experience a wide range of realistic IMC conditions, ensuring you are well-prepared for real operations after completing the course.

The course concludes with a flight test. Once passed, you are licensed to fly under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
